What cable to i need to connect my mixer to my amp?

I need to connect my mixer out to my amp. The mixer has MALE XLR and the amp has FEMALE XLR. There is one for left and right ( stereo ) im ume. Can i use a BALANCED microphone xlr cables? By rights a should be able to use unbalanced xlr cables because im not splitting the signal and using a cable for each channel ( left and right ) so it should stay in stereo. Am i on the right track? and can anyone understand what i mean? So if i use 2 balanced xlr microphone Cables, one for both left and right to the left and right on the amp, it should stay in stereo?
