Does my employer have to act if i am beaten up outside of work by my old boss?

my old boss got demoted after i put in a complaint about him bullying me at work recently i met him in a pub and he decided to punch me a few times in the head and face and i still work with this guy does my employer have a resoniblty to act i.e sack him as they are saying it happened outside of work?
